Scottish Fiddle Orchestra to Perth

A GROUP of 16 accomplished young musicians aged between 12 and 17 fly to Canada in July to take part in an intensive week-long music programme at the Sunshine Coast School of Celtic Music.

They then head north for a week to stay with families in Powell River and perform a series of concerts with young Powell River musicians.

This summer the Canadian children are coming to Scotland for study and to stay with the young Scots and perform in joint concerts.

The young Scots musicians are members of two groups – Stushie and BowMhor.

For over a year the Scottish youngsters have been fund-raising by busking and holding ceilidhs and concerts.

They were busking in Perth High Street one Saturday afternoon last year when they were heard by Gordon Campbell, minister of Perth Congregational Church in Kinnoull Street. He was so impressed that he generously offered his church for a fund-raising concert.

The concert is in the church this Sunday at 2pm. Expect lively jigs, reels and polkas, beautiful slow airs and traditional and contemporary song. Tickets (on the door) cost £5.
