THE inaugural Rattray Art Festival takes place in Rattray Hall on Saturday and Sunday, August 28 and 29, from 10am to 6pm.

Works by established and emerging artists, many from the local area, will be on display in the former church building.

The artists have agreed to donate 20% of their sales to the RNLI and donations from the public will be collected for the charity.

Johanna Frampton, a local farmer, said the idea for the festival came to her when she was snowed in last winter: “I wanted to bring together three things I care about: the local community of which I have been part for more than 40 years; the RNLI who save lives at sea and rely entirely on donations from the public; and the arts, which seem to me to have been largely squashed out in school by technology.

“I want this new festival to encourage local talent and also create a showcase in Rattray for established artists. This is a small acorn I hope will grow into an oak tree.”
