Celts unite for Craicin’ Cancer Concert

ORGANISERS of the next Craicin’ Cancer Concert, to be held in Dunkeld Cathedral at 7.30pm on Saturday May 28, are confident it is already shaping up to be a huge success.

The star guests of the evening are the Singleton Singers from Wales, ably supported by a group from The Robert Wiseman Dairies Vale of Atholl Pipe Band and Aberfeldy and District Gaelic Choir.

The Singleton Singers are a ladies’ choir who enjoy singing and performing for a wide variety of audiences. The choir, a registered charity, was founded in 1984 and many of their concerts raise funds for local charities.

The choir’s repertoire includes a wide variety of traditional and contemporary music which is suitable for every occasion.

Aberfeldy and District Gaelic Choir, under conductor May Brown, is already preparing for the Perthshire and Angus Provincial Mod in Aberfeldy on June 11 and will be heading to the Mod on Mull in September.

“Gaelic makes up a large part of our repertoire,” said May, “but we perform all kinds of music and we are looking forward to participating with the Singleton Singers in the Craicin’ Cancer Concert. We have a tradition of singing with Welsh choirs, having first sung with one back in 1987.”

May added: “The choirs will certainly make the rafters ring in Dunkeld Cathedral and the pipes and drums, always a favourite with locals and visitors, combined with choral music, will create an exciting sound which is not often heard.”

Tickets for the concert are £7, from Wade Newsagents in Aberfeldy, The Sheep Shop in Pitlochry and Rococo Hairdressing Salon, Dunkeld. Tickets can also be obtained by phoning the Craicin’ Cancer Concert organisers Kate Coaton on 01887 830315 or Susan MacDonald on 01887 820478.

A top class raffle is also running and will be drawn the day after the concert at Kenmore Hotel.

All proceeds from the concert and raffle will go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.
