PERTH Theatre is the venue next Tuesday at 5pm for ‘The Gods are Watching’ by John McCann as part of National Theatre of Scotland’s Five Minute Theatre.

From eerie footsteps to shadowy figures and things that go bump in the night; all theatres have their ghosts, and the 110 year-old Perth Theatre is no exception.

The Gods are Watching by local writer John McCann is based on the legend of the phantom of Perth Theatre, believed to be the ghost of a bar maid. Over the years there have been several sightings and hearings of this spooky vision in the auditorium, backstage and in the theatre’s public spaces.

The five minute monologue performed by Perth actor Sally Reid will take place during the month-long Perth Youth Theatre Festival, when 160 youngsters have the run of the venue to stage their own shows, and will be directed by Perth Youth Theatre co-ordinator Barry Henderson.

Turning convention on its head, Sally will perform in the auditorium with the audience watching from the stage.

Unexpected

It’s an opportunity for the audience to see the theatre from a different perspective and maybe even catch a glimpse of something unexpected lurking in the shadows...

The Gods are Watching is the first production in the National Theatre of Scotland’s Five Minute Theatre project in which 235 specially selected five minute theatre pieces will take part in a 24-hour online broadcast of live theatre, from 5pm next Tuesday until 5pm the following day.
