Perth Burns Club hosts a Day of Scottish Life and Culture

‘SCOTTISH Life and Culture’ is the theme on Saturday, November 26, when Perth Burns Club hosts its eighth annual event, now recognised as Perth’s major celebration of St Andrew’s Day.

This celebration again takes place in the intimate surroundings of the Soutar Theatre at the AK Bell Library Theatre, York Place, Perth. The afternoon session will run from 1pm to approximately 5pm and will feature a lecture, a film and a play from the following personalities:

l Andrew Clegg – a renowned speaker and raconteur whose 40- minute lecture, ‘Other Voices in the Wind’, will take a fresh look at Robert Burns’ epic poem, Tam o’ Shanter;

l Douglas Eadie – a well-known Scottish film director and producer who will present a showing of his own film, ‘Norman McCaig Fishing for Poetry’, which has been shown on BBC television and features Billy Connolly, Aly Bain and Andrew Greig.

l Anna Hepburn from Aberfeldy, is a Scottish actress who will perform her own one-woman stage play ‘Mary Queen of Scots: The Last Letter’ which received rave reviews at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tickets for the afternoon session are £6 which includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

At the same venue, starting at 7.30 pm, there will be a traditional Scottish concert featuring Perth’s own international folk singer-songwriter Jim Malcolm, direct from his current tour of the USA. He will be joined by the popular Edinburgh all-girl a cappella trio The Silver Darlings. What promises to be a great evening of music, song and humour will be compered by Perth Burns Club member and local songwriter George MacDiarmid.

Tickets for the evening concert are £8. Early booking is advised as the theatre capacity is limited.

Tickets for both the afternoon and evening events are now available from Concorde Music, 17 Scott Street, Perth; the A.K.Bell Library, York Place, Perth; and from Elliott Boyle, telephone 01738 643963, email:elliott.boyle@talktalk.net
