Golf top class on greens
AN ECO version of the new Golf is being planned by Volkswagen with emissions low enough to escape current tax charges.
The Golf BlueMotion is said to be capable of averaging 74.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 99g/km ? below the 100g/km car tax threshold.
The ultra-green Golf is powered by a highly-efficient and refined 1.6-litre TDI common rail diesel engine developing 105 PS and despite the focus on economy it can reach 62 mph from rest in a claimed 11.3 seconds with a top speed of 117 mph.
As with other VW BlueMotion models such as the Polo and Passat, the Golf concept features aerodynamic improvements, low rolling resistance tyres and revised gearbox ratios to reduce emissions.
The new Golf will go on sale in the UK in January next year and the BlueMotion model will follow around mid-2009.
