Ka cleans up with little diesel

A DIESEL version of the new Ka which will be capable of averaging 67mpg has been announced by Ford.

It is the first time Ford?s baby model has been fitted with a diesel engine

The new Ka will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October ? two months before it goes on sale.

As well as sharp styling in keeping with Ford?s kinetic design philosophy, as seen on the new Fiesta and Mondeo, the latest Ka will be available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine as well as the 1.3-litre diesel.

Both engines will have CO2 emissions below 120g/km.

The second generation Ka has been developed in conjunction with Fiat and will be built in Poland alongside the Fiat 500 ? the current Car of the Year.

Ford says the 1.2-litre petrol model, which is expected to be the largest seller in the new range, has cut fuel consumption by 21 per cent compared to the original 1.3-litre Ka.

The Ka will be available in four trims ? Studio, Style, Style + and Zetec ? and will feature a trendy interior design as will as a series of option packs to enable buyers to customise their cars.

Prices are still to be announced.
