Honda CR-V 2.2i CTDi EX
IT?S been labelled as a soft-roader, but the Honda CR-V is certainly proving to be a hard-hitter in the 4x4 market.
With all the creature comforts of an executive saloon and the ability to cope with any weather conditions Mother Nature may throw in its path, the CR-V has consistently proved a favourite amongst buyers.
And now with a diesel version available too, the CR-V range is complete and aptly armed to take on the challenge of Toyota?s RAV4, Land Rover?s Freelander and Hyundai?s Santa Fe plus the host of other newcomers streaming onto the market today.
The CR-V has all the streamlining features and good looks to turn heads, but offers driver and passengers alike a solid, safe and almost invincible feel inside. The high-seated driving position means all-round visibility is excellent and the large panoramic roof adds to the airy and spacious atmosphere inside the cabin.
Top notch specifications include cruise control, dual-zone climate control with air conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding door mirrors, a rearview parking camera, alloy wheels, plus a whole lot more.
Despite its size, the CR-V handles exceptionally well in and around town and manoeuvrability is outstanding. On the more open road, the 2.2-litre engine delivers plenty of power and with six gears to change through there is ample acceleration too.
Another plus is Honda?s consideration towards driver comfort ? all the dials and controls are ideally situated for ease of use, including several on the steering wheel.
Throughout the vehicle there are many storage compartments including a lockable glovebox and the boot area is a good size and boasts a double deck cargo shelf.
Safety features are also first class with anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability assist, roll-over protection along with numerous airbags.
After a week behind the wheel of the CR-V, it was very hard to pick fault ? that the fuel gauge didn?t always respond very accurately when diesel was put in was all I could come up with.
But that minor gripe aside, the CR-V is certainly the sports utility vehicle to watch out for.
