20 years go swimmingly

PERTH Leisure Pool's first-ever customer James Duff remembers the night of July 29, 1988, when he queued from 10pm to be the first person to visit the brand new facility.

James, who is pictured above with Provost Alex Murray on the opening day, isn’t available for the 20th anniversary. But he wishes the pool – and its staff – all the best for the future.

The facility has considerably changed over the years in an attempt to provide customers with the latest fitness and exercise opportunities.

Over the years, it has seen a new interactive play area for under-eights, the health suite upgraded, an increase in the amount of swimming lessons offered and a new Power Plates studio.

The 20th anniversary celebrations, which take place this weekend from 10am–9pm, are set to be a great day out for the whole family, with a huge range of fun activities on offer.

The leisure pool’s facility operations manager Debbie Gillespie said: “It's hard to believe that Perth Leisure Pool is 20 years old.

“To this day, the facility continues to be one of Scotland's most popular aquatic attractions, with people visiting from all over Scotland.

“This year has been particularly special for the centre. In April we welcomed our 10,000,000th visitor – and now we celebrate a landmark birthday.

“We feel this event is the perfect opportunity for families to participate in a variety of activities, have fun and help us celebrate.”

The activities on offer will include a climbing wall, giant inflatables, children's quad bikes, face painters, disco and barbecue.

Tickets can be purchased from any Perth and Kinross leisure centre. A one day family ticket costs £20 (two adults and up to three juniors), which includes a swim, or £10 for Spectrum Family.

Single tickets are also available. For more information or to purchase a ticket call 01738 492421.
