Counting down to Festival of the Arts launch

THERE is less than a week to go until this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts opens its eclectic programme of cultural events spanning 11 days.

Tickets are still available for most events, including the high-profile names on the contemporary music scene: Calvin Harris, Richard Hawley and The Levellers.

Yesterday it was announced which acts would be supporting Scottish electro magnate Calvin Harris, who plays Perth Concert Hall on Friday, May 30.

Edinburgh-based four-piece xvectors have established themselves as tremendous live performers of disco reinvention and Burns is a DJ who often supports Harris at his live gigs.

Luva Anna from Dundee support Richard Hawley in Perth Concert Hall on May 22, a few days ahead of playing a Radio One session with Vic Galloway in Glasgow.

The five-piece were described in The Scotsman as “a loose approximation of the Coral colliding with the Pogues”.

Also Perth-bound from Dundee are The Hazey Janes, previously anounced as supporting The Levellers at Perth Concert Hall on May 24.

Venues for the performing arts covering classical music, jazz, traditional, pop and rock, and comedy are Perth Concert Hall, Perth Theatre and St John’s Kirk, while the visual arts are represented at galleries throughout the city, including the two main festival exhibitions: ‘Paul Reid: Paintings and Drawings 1997-2007’ and ‘A Glimpse of the Floating World’ at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.

Full details of the Perth Festival (May 22 to June 1) can be found in the festival brochure and on the website: www.perthfestival.co.uk

Tickets can be bought over the phone at 0845 612 6330, at Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall and online at www.horsecross.co.uk. Tickets are also available for Calvin Harris, The Levellers, Richard Hawley, Arthur Smith and 4 Poofs & A Piano at www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
