Cherrybank Inn: Welcome Inn to home comforts

MUMMY and I were half way up the Glasgow Road when we remembered that the Cherrybank Coffee Shop is sadly no more.

Gone are the days when a Lady Who Lunches could enjoy a stroll round the Heather Gardens, followed by a light lunch and a wander round the gift shop.

Lamenting the demise of one of the Fair City’s best-loved visitor attractions, I swung the X5 into the handy carpark behind the Cherrybank Inn – pictured right – instead.

Now, the Cherrybank has long been a regular haunt of The Husband and his golf-playing cronies.

But I’ve always assumed that the testosterone levels in this historic coaching inn precluded a girlie lunch. My mistake!

Taking a seat in the extremely comfortable bar lounge, we took in the impressive views while perusing the tempting bar menu.

All the favourites – Scampi, Chilli, Fried fillet of Haddock, Chicken Curry, Chicken Fillets in batter and Home-made Steak Pie – get a name-check, along with a good selection of specials – fishcakes, thai curry etc – which are chalked up on a board beside the bar.

Mummy ordered the Scampi which was served with a nice side salad and of chips, while I ordered the prawn salad, which again came with the choice of baked, boiled or chipped potatoes.

Both meals were delicious and served in generous portions.

Rounding off with a couple of coffees, Mummy and I decided this is definitely one haunt that the boys aren’t keeping to themselves.
