CLASSICAL enthusiasts will be out in force for an important recital in Perth on Friday.
Perth-born Helen Neilson cellist will perform at St John’s Kirk at 7.30pm in a themed-programme entitled ‘Play, Architecture, Emotion’.
Her programme opens with work by Scottish composer Ronald Stevenson and Schostakovich’s mournful Recitative and Air, before moving on to JS Bach in his second suite for solo cello in D minor and Brahms’ Sonata in F major.
The second half of the programme will feature Busoni’s transcription of Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, and pieces by Elliot Carter and Chopin (Polonaise Brilliante).
Ms Neilson will play with pianist John Paul Gandy. The pair have worked together on various projects in London over a number of years, including collaborations with Indian musicians as well as explorations of cello and piano literature.
Tickets for Friday’s concert are available on the door, or in advance from Perth’s Concorde Music.
