AN APPEAL has gone out to the public to help police hunt for a prisoner who went on the run from Castle Huntly this week.
Fraudster Derek Watson absconded from the Perthshire open prison after failing to return from a week-long home visit.
The 42-year-old was found guilty of fraud at Dundee Sheriff Court in May 2007 and sentenced to serve four years and 11 months in prison.
He was given a temporary release licence from the prison on October 1, with Watson giving an undertaking to return to Castle Huntly on Wednesday, October 8.
He failed to return and Tayside Police were contacted.
Watson is 6ft in height, of stocky build, and has short brown hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion.
He is known to have friends and family in the Dundee and Perth areas.
Anyone who has seen Watson since October 1, or anyone who knows his current whereabouts, is urged to get in touch with Tayside Police immediately by calling 0845 600 5705 or speak to any police officer. Information can also be given anonymously on 0800555111.
