Linda awarded Mod prizes

ABERFELDY’S Linda Dewar won two prizes for Choral Arranging at this year’s Royal National Mod, currently taking place in Falkirk.

In a ceremony held on Wednesday, Linda was awarded second place in the four-part arrangement category, and third in the two-part arrangement category.

Linda, a folk and traditional singer who is also a member of the Aberfeldy and District Gaelic Choir, said that she was delighted with the results.

“I’m so pleased to have done well with my first ever entries in these categories,” she said. “Gaelic is a musical language, and it’s a challenge to create an arrangement that will complement both the cadence of the language and the spirit of the music.”

Each of the two competitions called for arrangement of a required song, chosen by Mod officials early in the year.

The Royal National Mod is Scotland’s premier festival of the Gaelic language, arts and culture. This year’s Mod event opened last Friday and comes to a close tomorrow morning.
