A GANG of generous hairdressers from Blairgowrie will get on their bikes to raise funds for the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Dundee.
The group is setting off from outside the town’s Angus Hotel on Sunday, June 28, and will cycle through a myriad of back roads on their 14-mile route.
After passing through the likes of Coupar Angus, Meikleour and Lethendy, the 12-strong group will re-enter Blairgowrie via the Essendy Road.
Elaine Bednarek has been running the Cut Above hair salon in the East Perthshire town for the last 27 years.
She has taken part in the Relay for Life – a 24-hour fund-raising event held on the local rugby club’s pitches – alongside friends in each of the last two years.
And, following the event’s cancellation this time around, she was determined to keep the big-hearted momentum going for a charity close to her heart.
She said: “One of our other hairdressers has had breast cancer in the past and now runs a workshop for people using the Maggie’s Centre.
“It focuses on wig fitting and coping with hair loss, which is something that many people may not have thought a lot about before they are diagnosed.
“In a way, I wish I didn’t know as much about Maggie’s as I do – because it would mean that people I care about haven’t been affected by cancer – but they do a lot of good work.
“The distance we’re cycling is shorter than what we covered doing the Relay For Life but I felt it was important to still go and do something,” she said.
Anyone wishing to donate to their cause can all into the 1 Wellmeadow salon or phone Cut Above on: 01250 875 304.
