A £5MILLION residential home for the elderly could be heading for Kinross, if ambitious plans are given the green light.
Perth and Kinross Council recently received an application from GS Brown Construction signalling their intention to build a 60-bedroom facility on land to the south of the town’s Station Road.
The St Madoes-based firm previously submitted plans for six residential properties on the 0.4-hectare site but the development has stalled.
And Geoff Brown, chairman and founder GS Brown, said the plans – drawn-up alongside Kirkcaldy’s Kingdom Homes – could provide a shot in the arm for the local construction industry.
He said: “With the situation the building industry is in at the moment we’re having to look at other ways of operating.
“This would create work for between 60 and 70 people, for a period of anywhere between nine months and a year.”
He added: “The population as a whole is getting older all the time and I feel quite proud of the fact we could have a role to play in taking care of elderly people in the future.”
The proposed development will come under the microscope of the local authority’s planning department shortly.
