Volunteer-led project launched in Perthshire

COMMUNITY champions across Perthshire have been urged to sign up for a goodwill project designed to make the most of their services.

Presided over by the local council for voluntary services (CVS) the public-spirited initiative aims to create a list of all those operating within the not-for-profit sector.

Development support worker Norrie McPherson said the scheme – which comes under the wider Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Services (PKAVS) umbrella – was designed to ensure the region’s voluntary sector fulfils its potential.

He added: “Once groups become known to us we can offer a whole range of support mechanisms.

“We can offer help with training, sourcing funding and to assist them in developing their ideas.

“The only stipulation is that the groups involved have to be run by volunteers, not-for-profit, and be for the benefit of the community.”

A series of drop-in sessions are set to be held across the region to allow groups to meet Norrie face-to-face.

Starting in April, the first ones will take place in Highland and eastern Perthshire, before moving to Crieff and Kinross.

Norrie continued: “We want to encourage people to come into the venues and find out what the CVS can do for them.”
