A LANDMARK meeting in Stanley this week is set to help bring huge benefits to the Perthshire village and its surrounding area.
Representatives from numerous local organisations packed into the village hall on Tuesday evening for the launch of the Stanley Community Action Plan, which was drawn-up following an extensive survey last year.
Buoyed by the strong support of the community to all aspects of the proposals, the finalised plan was drawn-up to spearhead residents’ aspirations and includes tasks that will be taken on by many local voluntary organisations.
This week’s launch was co-hosted by Stanley Community Council, Stanley Development Trust and the Tenants and Residents’ Association, and was chaired by SDT chairman Gavin Davey.
The next step is to hold an open meeting for the entire community in the Village Hall on Wednesday (June 2), at 7pm, where local residents can find out more about how the plan will affect them, see how they may contribute and have their say.
Mr Davey told the PA: “The meeting this week provided a unique opportunity to bring together organisations and agree a joined-up approach to rejuvenate the village and area around Stanley.
“The response was tremendous. There were 18 representatives from local groups and organisations at the launch meeting, representing a huge cross-section of the community, and everyone adopted a positive approach and volunteered to contribute to the plan’s success.
“There are already some projects underway, with more to come. It’s a very exciting time for this area.”
The action plan takes in an area of some 1200 households, extending outwith Stanley to Kinclaven, Airntully and Ballathie.
Mr Davey explained there were six themes to the plan: community amenities; village enhancements; community safety; paths, cycleways and access; tourism and heritage; and planning and development.
“Some of the projects have already started such as the village in bloom group and plans to improve the village and church halls,” he said.
The Stanley Community Action Plan is free and is available to everyone. Anyone living in the area may pick up a copy from most shops in the village and it will be available at the Stanley Primary School gala on Saturday, June 26.
