Community sector website
A NEW community website has been rolled out for the voluntary and community sector in Perth and Kinross.
Voluntary Action Perthshire, the community engagement arm of the local charity PKAVS, has developed the innovative pages with financial support from the Rural Tayside LEADER programme.
The site will be a major communication tool for hundreds of voluntary organisations across the county, sharing information on training, volunteering, community planning, organisational development and community events.
The interactive website will also offer a blog to allow voluntary and community organisations to contact each other, share views and increase awareness of developments affecting the local sector.
Jillian Milne, Voluntary Action Perthshire development officer, explained: “The website will be of particular relevance for rural communities which have less opportunity to visit or make direct use of our services based in Perth city.
“We currently have 600 organisations on our database, however, a 2001 mapping exercise estimated that in excess of 4000 voluntary and community groups may exist throughout Perth and Kinross.
“The new website will help us access and support these unidentified organisations, as well as offering support around the clock.”
The launch event featured a hands-on demonstration of the site and was attended by delegates from a variety of local groups who were keen to explore the new tool.
Voluntary Action Perthshire, based in the Gateway, North Methven Street, Perth offers guidance, development and support to voluntary organisations throughout Perth and Kinross.
