Perth paint project success for Murray Royal

STAFF and clients at the Walled Garden in the grounds of Perth’s Murray Royal Hospital are celebrating an award of over £2000 to support their paint re-use initiative.

Community RePaint Perth is part of the local charity PKAVS. It takes surplus paint and redistributes it to good causes within the community, helping to reduce amounts going to landfill sites.

With the support of a co-ordinator, the project is manned by Walled Garden clients recovering from mental illnesses and offers an opportunity to develop skills within a safe and supportive environment.

The financial boost from Awards for All Scotland has been used to purchase a small hut which will be a focus for customer care as well as a base for the clients who help run RePaint.

Kitted out with a new computer, the hut will also offer a training space for Walled Garden attendees to develop IT skills.

Debbie Butler, co-ordinator of the Walled Garden, said: “This is an excellent addition to our service. Both customers and clients will benefit and we are grateful for the support from Awards for All.”

The new RePaint base was officially opened at the end of June.

Walled Garden clients Stephen Sneddon and George MacIntosh, who help run Community RePaint Perth, took pride in cutting the ribbon.
