Bus collision victim suffers head injuries
A 25-YEAR-OLD Perth woman escaped with minor head injuries after being hit by a Stagecoach bus yesterday afternoon.
The collision just after noon took place at York Place near its busy Caledonian Road junction, with an ambulance crew quickly on site.
Police officers were also at the scene directing vehicles past the stationary bus and taking witness statements while paramedics tended to the victim who was conscious and breathing.
A Scottish Ambulance spokesman confirmed the pedestrian sustained a head injury and had been taken to Perth Royal Infirmary.
“That would suggest it’s probably a fairly minor injury, as if it was more serious, she would have gone to Ninewells in Dundee,” he said.
A Tayside Police spokeswoman said no blame had been attributed to the driver of the service 7 Hillend to Scone bus.
“At the moment it would appear that the woman has probably walked out in front of the bus but we will know more as the investigation proceeds,” she said.
“We believe it was a low-speed impact and that her injuries may be relatively minor, some bruising to various parts of her body, so we have our fingers crossed that she’s going to be okay.”
A Stagecoach spokeswoman confirmed the service 7 bus had been involved in the incident, saying the company’s primary concern was for the welfare of the female pedestrian.
“We are now assisting police with their inquiries and will also carry out our own investigation into the incident,” she said.
In April, a 49-year-old Fair City man suffered a broken jaw and cheek bone after being hit by a Stagecoach bus on Perth’s Scott Street, with the 5.15pm collision witnessed by horrified shoppers and commuters.
The incident followed another collision earlier this year where a male pedestrian apparently walked out in front of a Stagecoach bus in the town’s South Street.
Anyone who witnessed yesterday’s incident should contact Tayside Police in Perth on 0300 111 2222.
