Broiler farm plans

MAJOR plans for two chicken broiler sheds at Dunning goes before councillors tomorrow.

The facility, proposed for Duncrub Farm, will house around 90,000 birds for meat production.

They have been marked for approval by council officers.

A report before the development control committee says the plans fall under farm diversification guidance.

Statutory consultees Sepa say the proposed waste and odour management systems are in line with its requirements and as such the environment watchdog has not raised any objection.

Scottish Water however says its “water assets” in the area may be affected and has highlighted separate consent may be needed for some of the proposed business.

Dunning Community Council has objected, raising concerns over cumulative transport movements from the site which would create noise, disruption and pollution.

Three letters of objection were received, questioning whether there was any need for the business and highlighting potential light pollution and adverse affects on neighbouring property.

The council says there would be a two-month turnover of production at the facility involving the arrival of two lorry loads of chicks.
