PREVIOUS champions will feature large at this year’s Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles, with last year’s winner Edoardo Molinari just confirming he will be there.
The event from August 25-28 will also see Soren Kjeldsen, winner in 2003, Marc Warren, winner in 2007 and 2008 winner Gregory Havret compete.
Under enormous pressure as he sought to catch the eye of European Ryder Cup Captain, Colin Montgomerie, Molinari had one of the year’s best finishes when he birdied the last three holes to win the 2010 Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, cementing his place as one of the 2010 Ryder Cup European wildcard picks.
Molinari said: “I am really looking forward to returning to Gleneagles to defend my Johnnie Walker Championship title. The race for a Ryder Cup place made last year’s event so special.
“To be able to deliver with so much pressure means Gleneagles will always be very special to me. Hopefully I’ll be in the 2014 European Ryder Cup there. It is definitely one of my goals.
“It’s a fantastic course and a tournament that has built a global reputation. I know it will be difficult to defend my title with so many great golfers in the field, but I will give it my best shot."
The defending champion will be joining international stars Jeev Milkha Singh, Thomas Bjorn, Thongchai Jaidee and Scotland’s Paul Lawrie, Stephen Gallacher and 2007 Champion Marc Warren.
Tickets for the Johnnie Walker Championship are priced from £22 for a daily ticket to £45 for a season ticket and are available at the gate.
