Last two weeks of Dewar’s World of Whisky Photography Competition

With just over two weeks to go before the closing date for Dewar’s World of Whisky’s annual photography competition, over 30 entries have been received so far.

With some superb shots taken throughout Perthshire and beyond, many are classic photographs of iconic Perthshire landmarks, with waterfalls proving very popular. This week, however, we thought we would feature a slightly different approach, with this shot of a turning wave, taken by Sarah Kelman from Perth, who reveals that it involved sitting for quite a time on some very cold pebbles on the beach!

An even more unorthodox approach to this year’s theme of “Water” was taken by Stuart Smith with an entry he explains in this way: “Clearly no water involved but a creature out of water. Probably not suitable at all but a great picture so I thought I would include this one.” We liked Stuart’s style!

Of course, the water theme is one very dear to the heart of anyone who enjoys a dram from time to time, as Peter Guthrie, Brand Experience Co-ordinator at Dewar’s World of Whisky, explained: “The word whisky derives from a translation into Gaelic of the Latin term “aqua vitae”, meaning water of life, and of course the origin and purity of the water we use in making the Aberfeldy Single Malt are vital to its quality. Here at Aberfeldy we take our water from the Pitilie Burn, which has been used to make whisky since long before Aberfeldy Distillery was completed in 1898.”

The winning photographer will receive a £100 voucher to spend in the Dewar’s World of Whisky brand store or online, and second place will receive a £50 voucher. Ten runners up will also win a bottle of Aberfeldy Single Malt, while every entrant will be sent a complimentary pass to Dewar’s World of Whisky.

The competition is open to amateur photographers only, with a closing date for entries of 5th September. Selected entries will be printed in the PA over the next few weeks, and winners announced on September 23.
