Kevin Mathieson is new Tayside Police chief constable

TAYSIDE Police chief John Vine stepped down this week and the constabulary named the man who would take his place at the top.

From Monday, Deputy Chief Constable Kevin Mathieson will step up to the role as Chief Constable when John Vine leaves to take up the post as Chief Inspector of the UK Border Agency.

Speaking after confirmation of his promotion, 48-year-old Mr Mathieson said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be appointed as Chief Constable of Tayside Police.

“I am looking forward with great anticipation to leading the Force in the years to come.”

Mr Mathieson, a former pupil of Buckie High School, joined Grampian Police in 1976 as a cadet before joining as a regular Constable two years later.

He has had various roles in police services north and south of the border and joined Tayside Police in February 2007, when he was appointed as Deputy Chief Constable.
