No options left but jail for Perthshire lawbreaker

A PERTH sheriff told Kristopher Murphy, Davie Park Place, Rattray, that the court had exhausted sentencing options for the 20-year-old, and the only penalty left was jail.

Murphy was appearing from custody for sentence at Perth Sheriff Court, having previous admitted that, on January 9, he broke into Davie Park Community Flat, occupied by Perth and Kinross Council’s social work service, and stole a television and DVD player.

He also admitted breaking bail conditions on April 4 by failing to appear at court.

A not guilty plea of setting fire to a Ford Transit van in Rattray, on January 20 was accepted. Sheriff Robert McCreadie imposed periods of detention totalling seven months.
