Witness appeal after town centre disturbance

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was hospitalised following a disturbance in Perth town centre on Wednesday evening.

Trouble escalated at about 8.10pm in a common close at the Caledonian Road end of Perth’s High Street.

As a result, a 41-year-old man was taken to Ninewells Hospital with injuries to his back, neck and stomach.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two men have been arrested by police and are expected to appear in Perth Sheriff Court today (Friday).

A spokesman for the police said: “Tayside Police can confirm that two Perth men – one aged 35 the other 40-years-old – were arrested following a disturbance in a common close in Perth’s High Street.”

He went on to explain: “The immediate area where the disturbance took place has been cordoned off to allow scenes of crime officers to carry our detailed examination.

“Another area nearby – at a supermarket car park – has also been secured for investigation.”

A report on the incident is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
