Stab charge two appear in court

TWO Perth men have appeared at the city’s Sheriff Court on charges of attempted murder, assault and robbery.

It followed incidents in a common close at the Caledonian Road end of High Street, reported in Friday’s PA.

Before the court were Robert Morrow Thompson (40), of Ainslie Gardens, and 35-year-old Paul James Bonner, of the city’s St Catherine’s Road.

It is alleged that on July 2, at 357 High Street, they both assaulted Steven Lynagh by seizing hold of him, repeatedly striking him with a knife – or similar bladed instrument – in the neck and back and attempting to murder him.

Thompson is alleged to have been on bail at the time from Perth District Court.

They both face a second charge of robbing Mr Lynagh of a mobile phone and £40 in cash.

A third charge also alleges that they both assaulted William Gillilan by grabbing hold of him and pulling him into the common close on the High Street.

Thompson was represented by solicitor Paul Ralph and Bonner by Jamie Morris.

The pair made no plea and their cases were continued for further inquiries. Both were remanded in custody.
