THE Walled Garden in Perth plans to celebrate summer in style at its annual open day on Saturday.
The garden project, which is part of local charity Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service (PKAVS), is opening its doors to the public for an afternoon of festivities and fundraising.
The day’s events, from noon until 4pm, will include live music, stalls and a barbecue. Local band Samuel’s Corner will provide acoustic music throughout the day to add to the festive atmosphere.
The annual open day offers the project an opportunity to showcase and sell its range of plants, fresh vegetables and garden furniture, all of which help raise essential funds to keep the project running.
The Walled Garden, based in the grounds of Murray Royal Hospital, supports up to 40 adults who are recovering from severe or enduring mental ill health every week, by providing work and training opportunities in horticulture, catering, and arts and crafts.
Workers in the garden enjoy developing new skills and taking the first steps back to volunteering or full-time employment.
The open day sees locals and tourists flock to see the beautiful gardens at their best.
Even last year’s poor weather didn’t keep supporters away and manager Chris Goode is hoping for sunshine this year.
Chris said: “The garden is beautiful at this time of year and visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the gardens in full bloom, with entertainment and refreshments to top off the experience.”
The Walled Garden is next to Pitcullen House, in the grounds of Murray Royal. Entry is free and car parking is available.
Entry by car on Saturday will be via the Gannochy Road entrance to the hospital.
