A PERTH teenager became involved in a high-speed police chase after driving off in his mother’s car.
Perth Sheriff Court was told that John Phillips (18), of Huntingtower Road, reached speeds in excess of 100mph during the early morning pursuit.
Officers finally stopped him – and he faced a catalogue of driving charges when he appeared in the dock.
He pled guilty to taking away the car without consent from Grange Terrace, Perth, on August 2.
He then drove dangerously and at excessive speeds on the A9 by-pass between Inveralmond and Broxden and on the Glasgow Road and Glover Street, and then failed to stop when required by police.
He had no insurance and, being a provisional licence holder, had no ‘L’ plates and no qualified driver with him.
Solicitor Paul Ralph described the incident as “stupid” and said the accused lacked maturity.
Sheriff Robert McCreadie deferred sentence until December 4 and called for background reports.
He was also ordered to be of good behaviour until then.
