Volunteer who stole vouchers fined

A PERTH woman who pocketed more than £600 worth of mobile phone top-up vouchers while working for the WRVS at a local hospital was fined £350 when she appeared for sentence at the Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Karen McLean (42), of the city’s Brahan Terrace, was also ordered to pay £645 in compensation to the charity.

The court was told that she helped herself to the vouchers on three occasions while working in the shop at Perth Royal Infirmary between September 7 and October 5 last year.

The vouchers were not recovered.

In a letter to the court, McLean said: “I’m sorry for what I did.

“I was having money problems and it was a way to keep money in the phone.”
