Council walk out over pay

COUNCIL services will be disrupted tomorrow after local government trades unions called a 24 hour strike, in connection with the national pay offer.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Miller said: “We have made every effort to minimise this disruption wherever possible, to protect the vulnerable members of our community, and to give residents as much notice and information as possible.”

As a result of the industrial action the following changes to Council services will be in place on Wednesday.

Normal service delivery will resume on Thursday, August 21.

Council headquarters at 2 High Street, Perth will be open and committee meetings will go ahead as scheduled. The Atrium in Glover Street, Perth will also be open.

Pullar House in Perth, Area Offices and other council offices will be closed to members of the public.

All council run primary schools, secondary schools, nurseries and educational facilities (including community learning centres) will be closed to pupils and the public.

All school lets and out of school clubs will be cancelled.

Almondbank Cottages, Glebe Residential Unit, Gowans Terrace Child and Family Centre, Wellbank House and Woodside Residential Unit will be open.

The Registrars Services at 3/5 High Street Perth will be open. All other Registrars offices will be closed. The District Court at 16 Tay Street, Perth will be open.

AK Bell Library in Perth will be closed to members of the public. Please note that the Boundary Commission’s public inquiry will proceed in the theatre of the Library. Members of the public should call the Customer Service Centre after 10am to check if other libraries, museums and art galleries are open.

There may be disruption to refuse collection services in some areas. If your refuse is collected on Wednesdays, please present it for collection as normal. If it is not collected on the 20th, we will ensure that the backlog is cleared as part of the normal collection on Wednesday, August 27. This applies to domestic, commercial and trade waste collections.

If you receive the kerbside recycling service, and your bin is not collected as scheduled on August 20, please present it for collection on August 22.

All civic amenity sites will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday, August 20).

All adult resource centres and day centres will be closed. The Meals on Wheels service will be provided as normal.

If anyone has a concern regarding care services on August 20, contact 0845 30 111 20.

The Customer Service Centre will be open from 8am–6pm, tel 01738 475000.

Any further information regarding the industrial action will be communicated to the public through Council Website (www.pkc.gov.uk) or the local media.
