Fast track plans for Cittaslow weekend
PERTH and Kinross Cittaslow are promoting a series of “Cittaslow Weekends” throughout September.
The Cittaslow Weekends link a variety of events and activities that showcase local produce, local culture, local heritage and the local environment.
The aim is to encourage locals and visitors to enjoy all that Perth and Kinross has to offer and to get to know what’s on their doorstep that little bit better.
The Cittaslow Weekends will be promoted every weekend in September and will incorporate over two dozen events and activities that take place from the Scottish Crannog Centre on Loch Tay in the north, to Vane Farm RSPB Reserve on Loch Leven in Kinross-shire in the south.
Events include Farmers Markets, Highland Games, Doors Open Days, Perthshire Open Studios and much more.
Details of all events can be found on the www.perthcittaslow.org.uk website.
Among the venues for Cittaslow Weekends is the Brig Farm Shop at Bridge of Earn, who are hosting a Gates Open Weekend with “Worms, Wellies and Wonderful Walks” on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14.
Visitors will be able to see the wiggly worm farm, meet the animals and wildlife who live on the farm, and enjoy a Brig Barbeque with tasters from local Perthshire producers.
There will also be a “Welly Boot Competition” with prizes for the best decorated wellies!
Launching the Cittaslow Weekends, Councillor Jack Coburn, the Chair of Perth and Kinross Cittaslow Steering Group, said: “Cittaslow is all about celebrating and enjoying what is good and what is unique in your local area.
“In Perth and Kinross, we have wonderful local food, outstanding visitor attractions, imaginative arts and crafts, and exciting events.
The Cittaslow Weekends bring all these elements together to emphasise just how much we have to enjoy and celebrate in our area.
“I hope locals and visitors will get out and about over the Cittaslow Weekends to have fun sampling and enjoying all that Perth and Kinross has to offer.”
Nicola Martin, Brig Farm Shop Manager, added: “Our business is built on the principles of Slow Food and Green Practices and we firmly believe that our customers are as committed to these as we are.”
