LACK of power in the golf swing is generally caused by a poor turn, resulting in a bent left arm at the top of the backswing and no width (pic.3).

If you can learn how to create a wider arc on your backswing by making a good shoulder turn, then you will gain those valuable extra yards.

Today, I'll show you a drill that can be done at home or on the driving range, which will both help you coil more effectively and increase the arc of your swing.

Firstly make your address position and grip the club with your hands about five-six inches apart and your club head hovering above the ground (pic.1).

Now swing to the top of your backswing, keeping your left arm straight, and you should really feel the big muscles of your shoulders and torso stretch (pic.2).

By splitting your hands on the grip, it really forces your right shoulder to turn fully and therefore widens the arc of your swing.

Practise this drill whenever you get the chance and you can surprise your friends with the extra yards that you'll gain!
