MID-SCOTLAND and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has called on the Scottish Government to make Perth and Kinross one of the priority areas for investment in flood prevention.
Mr Fraser believes action needs to be taken to protect communities from annual flooding that takes place right across the region.
Over the last few years communities in the Big County – notably Milnathort – have been subject to flooding in both summer and winter.
The MSP said: “Too often communities in Tayside are threatened with flooding and it is extremely distressing to the people affected.
“It seems that every year, we have communities in Perthshire having to deal with flooding, or who are at risk from flooding.
“Residents and farmers across Tayside will be rightly asking why action has not been taken to stop the risk of their property and land being flooded.
“The SNP government must recognise that these areas require urgent investment in flood prevention schemes.
“I understand that there is a limit to what government can do up against the forces of nature.
“However, the SNP government acknowledging the importance of flood prevention schemes in Tayside will be a start in tackling this issue and providing a long term solution to protecting homes and businesses,” he said.
