Dear Editor, – The character of Crieff High Street is slowly but surely being eroded away.
I have no complaint against food takeaway and retail outlets, but only within reason. The demise of the characterful patisserie was sad, but to see it replaced by a takeaway is a crime!
We now have this, a kebab/pizza house, Cantonese takeaway, Chinese takeaway and two Indian takeaways available within spitting distance of each other.
Add to that the despicable decision to allow a Subway Sandwiches franchise to open up (which will surely take away much needed custom from established sandwich shops, not too mention the mess the kids will leave outside during their frantic lunchbreak) and we are slowly descending into a town of takeaways and cafés with individual shops being relegated to King Street.
In short, there is nothing to see. Let's combine this with the proposed new supermarket store and the death of the High Street is only a matter of time and Crieff becomes another "Tesco town" devoid of any life and character!
The irony is, it's so easy to re-fuel yourself, but an absolute nightmare to re-fuel your vehicle!
Time to move on, I think.
