Perth man denies attack on girlfriend

A PERTH man will stand trial at the Sheriff Court on December 23, charged with attacking his pregnant girlfriend.

Nicholas Derrett (24), of Rannoch Road, also faces a second charge of turning on members of the public who tried to assist her.

He denied that on September 17, at Letham Park, Rannoch Road, he assaulted the woman by punching her on the face, grabbing her by the throat and pushing her.

A second charge alleges that he also struck her on the face with his hand in Rannoch Road.

Derrett also denied committing a breach of the peace by brandishing a bottle and uttering threats.

A fourth charge alleges that he assaulted Bryan Burns, c/o Perth Police, by brandishing the bottle at him, lunging at him and attempting to hit him with it.

Further charges allege that he had an offensive weapon – the bottle – in his possession and that he had the Class C drug diazepam in Rannoch Road.

The offences are alleged to have taken place while he was on bail from Perth Sheriff Court on June 23.

A preliminary hearing will take place on December 11. Derrett was freed on bail but a 7pm-7am curfew was imposed.
