Perth tuberculosis sufferer denies spitting at police

A PERTH man has been charged with committing a breach of the peace at the local police HQ – by spitting at two police officers, knowing he was infected with tuberculosis.

John Lamont (44), of Kingswell Terrace, denied the charge and will appear for trial at Perth Sheriff Court on December 22.

A preliminary hearing was arranged for December 11.

It is alleged that on September 18, at the Barrack Street offices, he spat in the vicinity of PCs Alan Band and Derek Maule, knowing he was infected with TB.

The charge further alleges that he refused to stop when asked and continued to spit on the floor, at the feet of the officers.

He also denied a second charge of being in possession of a knife in Kingswell Terrace, Perth.

He was freed on bail, with a special condition not to approach or contact his sister.
