LOCAL politicians have paid tribute to the Rev. David Ogston, retired minister of St John’s Kirk in Perth, who died last week, aged 63.
A Thanksgiving Service will be held at noon today in the city centre kirk where he preached for nearly 30 years.
Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, said: “I was extremely sorry to hear of David Ogston's death.
“For many years, as minister of St John's, he performed an important role in many aspects of Perth civic life, such as Remembrance Day services, and he did so with a great deal of grace, and dignity. He will be sadly missed.”
Roseanna Cunningham, MSP for Perth, added: “David Ogston was a kind, friendly and approachable man.
“He was part of the fabric of Perth society and took those responsibilities seriously but there was plenty of humour too.
“Perth is the poorer for his passing but we gained much from his presence over many years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.”
Mr Ogston, who retired last September, is survived by his wife Meg, daughters Katie and Ruth and two grandchildren.
Retiring collections will be taken at the church service for Roxburghe House, where Mr Ogston died last Tuesday, and Churches Action for the Homeless.
A private family cremation will follow the Thanksgiving Service.
