HEARTSTART Discovery Perth, a scheme which trains members of the public in emergency lifesaving techniques, launches in the town on Saturday, October 25.
The training sessions are being held within the clinical skills area in the PRI on a Saturday morning between 10am and noon.
Each session gives people the skills and the confidence needed to do something should they be faced with a real life emergency. The training is structured in such a way that everyone can learn how to remain calm and take control in an emergency situation such as a heart attack, choking or serious bleeding.
Bystanders performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can double a person’s chance of survival, buying crucial time to allow the emergency services to reach them.
Maureen Cotterell, a retired district nursing sister, has been appointed as the new co-ordinator. She said: “I am absolutely delighted to be involved with Heartstart Discovery Perth and to be able to provide this important service.”
