Built great Lego reputation

A BIG County couple have carved out an international reputation among toy collectors after creating a prodigious Lego legacy.

After a decade of collecting the popular toys, Ed and Sian Hockaday, of Geddes Drive, Perth, have 350 figures.

The Fair City couple are both active members of Brickish – the UK association for adult fans of Lego – and take part in events throughout Scotland

The pair have painstakingly constructed a miniature fairground, village and a ‘block ‘n’ roll’ band brick by brick – a collection which has even entertained an international audience as part of a display at the Edinburgh Festival.

It is now 30 years since the first figures hit the shelves, a moment that Sian remembers well.

“As a child, Lego was one of my favourite toys, I remember the first figures coming out in the seventies and being very attached to them,” she told the PA.

“When I was younger, my entire Lego collection fitted in a plastic ice cream tub. I think I would have been green with envy then if I’d known how much Lego I would have as an adult.

“My adult Lego phase started after my husband Ed and I got married. He bought me a Lego space set as a fun present one Christmas.

“Ed also had Lego as a child and, over the years, our Lego collection has grown and we now have around 350 different figures, 500 in total.

“I think the figures are very cute and a fun thing to collect, basically, they make me smile,” she added.
