Rotarians boost charity

A PERTH rotary club’s book fair generated more than £1500 for charity.

Kinnoull Rotarians were delighted to exceed their £1000 target.

The best seller was £30 for a 1908 edition of Egypt and all its monuments, richly illustrated with photographs and drawings from an era 15 years before Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankamun's tomb.

Several unsigned first edition Harry Potter books went for £5 each, as did a first book club edition of Ian Fleming's Live and Let Die and some 1950s’ Biggles books.

But the main volume of sales came from hundreds, if not thousands, of hardbacks and paperbacks, especially books on cookery, house and garden and collecting.

As might have been expected, around 1000 VHS video tapes of well-known films were donated and, perhaps more surprisingly given technological changes, a third found new homes.

Money raised will boost the Rotary Club of Perth Kinnoull’s charity fund and will help members to continue to make donations to local and international charities.

Last year the club donated £10,000 to the Palliative Care Unit at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Thanks to all who donated and supported the event at the Salutation Army Hall.
