NEWSCASTER Shereen Nanjiani was yesterday named as the compere for a glittering Perthshire awards ceremony on Thursday.
The BBC Radio Scotland presenter will front the prestigious Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Business Star Awards 2008 at Crieff Hydro Hotel, after broadcaster Kaye Adams had to stand down as host due to work commitments.
Firms represented at the event are vying for eight category accolades, with most bosses’ eyes firmly fixed on the coveted Bank of Scotland-sponsored overall business-of-the-year title and trophy.
Ms Nanjiani will compere the black tie event and introduce the candidates competing for this year’s top slots.
Chamber business manager Vicki Unite said the judges faced an “almost impossible task” to select winners from a field of high quality entrants.
“The range and quality of entrant for the awards is very impressive indeed,” she said yesterday.
“The judges really had their work cut out for them, but they’re all experienced professionals who I’m sure will bring forward the very best to the winners’ rostrum at our gala Star Awards dinner.
“The awards are recognised as an indicator of business excellence and we’re looking forward to seeing who reaches their goal and rewarding their achievements.”
A new handcrafted trophy created by Sarah Peterson, lead designer at Crieff-based Caithness Glass, will be presented for the first time this year.
Ms Unite paid tribute to the firms providing sponsorship in recognition of the area’s entrepreneurs.
“The generosity of numerous businesses has allowed us to recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of others,” she said.
