Group is grateful after Mumbai trip

STAFF at Perth College have praised the work of their Indian hosts for shielding them from the worse of the atrocities that hit Mumbai last week.

A three-strong delegation from the college travelled to India’s largest city last Monday (November 24) in an attempt to forge business links with several companies and enhance the college’s worldwide reputation.

Their proposed two week stay was cut short after attackers killed over 170 people during a 60-hour terror-raid on Wednesday (November 26).

Management at the college advised the group to return amid safety fears.

Rob Chell, director of the institution’s international centre and one of the three who made the trip, said: “While the whole city was in a state of tension and unease, we were located in the northern part of the city which largely escaped attack.

“Having worked in Mumbai now for four years we have established close relationships with our business partners.

“Their kindness, offers of help and actual practical assistance were invaluable and have cemented what were already strong relationships.”

Hithendra Cheetirala, the college’s international business development officer, and Sara Wood, corporate development director, were also on the trip.

The group returned safely to Scotland on Sunday afternoon.
