A BUILDER who was caught driving in Perthshire at more than twice the legal drink-drive limit was banned from the road when he appeared at the sheriff court.
Harry Deane (47) lost his licence for three years after he admitted driving on the A90 last May with 84 micrograms (mics) of alcohol – the legal limit is 35mics.
Perth Sheriff Court heard Deane was stopped for a minor road traffic matter while en route from the Fair City to his former home in Dundee.
Police could smell booze on the bricklayer’s breath and called a doctor, who took a positive blood sample from him.
Deane’s solicitor said his client had been drinking the previous night but “felt in a position at that time to drive home”.
Pointing out that the offence was Deane’s second drink-driving conviction in five years, the visiting sheriff on the bench imposed a three-year driving ban.
Deane, of Musselburgh, was also fined £750, reduced from £1000 for pleading guilty at an early stage.
