A TOP policeman has apologised after being caught speeding on a hazardous stretch of the A9.
Chief Constable Kevin Mathieson, head of Tayside Police, was travelling at 72mph in a 60mph zone near Kingussie last September.
Mr Mathieson, who immediately accepted responsibility for the offence, was fined £60 and received three penalty points on his licence.
In a statement released by the force, Mr Mathieson said: “There is never an excuse for speeding, nor do I seek to make one on this occasion.
“I very much regret my error of judgement and promptly accepted responsibility for both the offence, the automatic £60 fine, and the three penalty points on my licence.”
Mr Mathieson had been driving to Inverness for a conference when he was caught.
