Cameron supports the ‘shop local’ ethos

WITH the Scottish Conservative Party Conference in swing at Perth Concert Hall, David Cameron took time out to praise the Perthshire Advertiser’s Shop Local campaign.

And the Tory leader also revealed how the Cameron family are very keen supporters of local shops and businesses.

Mr Cameron said: “Yes, whenever possible, I try to shop locally. My village is lucky enough to have a butchers and an excellent village shop.

My motto for local shops is ‘use them or lose them.’”

Mr Cameron went on to outline his party’s plans to regenerate our high streets and work towards bolstering business during this recession.

He told the PA: “My colleagues in the Scottish Parliament fought hard to persuade the SNP Government to release £60 million to regenerate our High Streets.

“Nearly 150,000 small businesses will also see their local taxes cut or abolished as a result of Annabel Goldie and her team.

He continued: “At Westminster we are proposing a £50bn National Loan Guarantee Scheme to underwrite bank lending to businesses, we want to cut the main rate of corporation tax to 25p and the small companies’ rate to 20p, and we will give small and medium-sized businesses a six-month VAT holiday.

“Locally, Peter Lyburn, like the PA, is running a Shop Local campaign and I support both those efforts wholeheartedly.”
