If it has wheels, it will be at this show

RALLYING and motorbike enthusiasts from all over the country will find all roads leading to the Dewars Centre on Sunday.

The Glover Street venue is hosting the eagerly-awaited Scottish Clubs’ Motorsport Show and a huge variety of “working cars” will be paraded.

Contemporary and historic rallying vehicles will be on show.

Organiser Dave Lauder decided it was time to stage another motorsport show in the Fair City, after a three-year absence.

Car clubs from all over Scotland have seized the opportunity to fly the flag.

And they will be joined by a club from south of the border intent on bringing 10 Mustangs to Perth as part of their own weekend rally.

Dave said: “It’s the only rally motorsport show and the vast majority of cars on show are still being raced, no matter their age.”

He noted that one Alvis, manufactured in 1929, completed the Paris-Peking trip just two years ago. It will be joined by a ‘35 Alvis which regularly takes part in competitions.

Dave said: “We have vehicles coming from as far afield as Brora and London. It’s a show which will appeal to the whole family.

“The line-up has been growing daily as clubs the length and breadth of Scotland come to Perth to promote themselves. With the Intercontinental Rally in the area later this year, they are also taking the opportunity to flag-up a world-class event.”

There will be classic cars rubbing shoulders with bruised and battered bangers which battle their way round the stockcar circuit at Cowdenbeath.

“We are all aiming to encourage more members to become part of the car club scene, locally and elsewhere in Scotland,” said Dave. “There are so many opportunities to take part and enjoy the sport, as a marshal, mechanic or participant.

“Visitors should keep their eyes peeled for a celebrity or two on Sunday.”

Off-road buggies, quads, hill climbers, touring cars and even land yachts will all enjoy a profile.

Also appearing at the Dewars Centre will be a glider from the charity “Walking in Air.”

Dave enthused: “If it has got a wheel it will probably be in Perth on Sunday. It will be a great day out. Also, for youngsters of any age there will be slot car racing and radio-controlled cars.”

Youngsters under six get free admission otherwise the entry fee is £5. There is car parking on site.

The venue opens on Sunday from 10am to 5pm and various charities will be boosted by the motorshow.
