Phones raise hospice cash

A MOBILE phone recycling campaign has helped divert old and unwanted phones from landfill and raised money for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

A cheque for almost £300 was handed over by Perth and Kinross Council to CHAS this week following the two-week campaign in January, 2009.

Over 200 phones were collected at special points including libraries, leisure centres, schools and recycling centres.

At the end of the campaign, all the phones donated were passed on to a recycling company for re-use or refurbishment. Any phones that could not be re-used had their spare components, such as wires, cameras and precious and base metals recovered to make new phones.
