A LABOUR candidate has called for a public inquiry into what he described yesterday as Perth’s incinerator “debacle”.
Jamie Glackin, the Labour Westminster candidate for Perth and North Perthshire, claimed the council was facing an “ongoing crisis” over plans for the giant waste-to-energy development on the city’s Shore Road.
Mr Glackin said yesterday: “Clearly there are serious lessons for the council to learn from all of this.
“I have said before that too often, in matters relating to planning issues, that the council has comprehensively failed to listen to the views of the people of Perthshire.
“When the dust settles on this, a public inquiry will be required to establish the facts of who was responsible for this mess and why they acted in such a manner.
“Currently, wild allegations are circulating throughout the entire council on this and, for the sake of good local government, we need to get to the facts.”
Mr Glackin believes the legal advice taken by Bridgend, Kinnoull and Gannochy Community Council is correct in that the only sensible way out of this is the revocation of the outline planning application.
